Cake and Flowers, Flowers and Cake

Apricot and Chocolate Chip Cake

A variation on Nigel Slater's 'a simple cake to serve with summer fruit' from his book Appetite.

I threw in about 70g of chocolate that I had chopped up in the food processor.
A dessert cake, moist and luscious.

Tulips and narcissi in a rainbow jug.

On a rainbow blanket.

To say these flowers and their jug are cheerful is probably a bit of an understatement.

  1. Sue I can almost taste the moist crumb of that cake, it is calling to me.

Homemade Pizza and salad for supper, however I am still dreaming about Pineapple in Kirsch.

Soon I will be like one of Pavlov's dogs, as soon as someone mentions Quince my mouth will water!

  2. Looks yummy.

  3. Wow what a colour spectacular!! Good for the soul seeing such jolly colours, so vibrant. Thank you for your lovely comment on my socks.
    Love Tickety-boo x

  4. Mmmmm, that cake looks delicious. I'm trying to cut back on the home baking as unfortunately I eat too much of it, just need to stop buying the stuff too now!

  5. I'm drooling at the sight of that cake! I want a slice. xx

  6. Oh what gorgeous, cheerful photos! The colours of the tulips and jug are ravishing. And the cake.....mmmmm x

  7. Love the rainbow jollity. Just be careful mixing daffs and other flowers as some dodgy juice in the daffs kills off the other blooms early. Not sure if the same goes for gorgeous little narcissi like yours.

What a wonderful feel-good post! I always get a little hit of happiness seeing your beautiful photos and imagining the taste of your delicious-looking baking.

  9. Adding chocolate never hurts.

  10. Doesn't Spring and all her glory make you feel so alive, the colors of the flowers, your jug and some crochet color is so Spring. You make the most delicious things.

Wow Sue! Those flowers are gorgeous!! I have exactly the same at home in different pots: the red/yellowy tulips in the sitting room and my daffs in the kitchen but together they look amazing! And that cake...mmm... I'd better not think too much about it - it's too early in the morning to start indulging....
Made your Scotch pancakes for breakfast on Sunday and they were great and very light!! I thought I will cook them next time I have visitors in the house. Have a sunny day! x Pati

  12. Hi Sue,
    Great post, lovely photos.
I want to thank you also for something else.
Yesterday evening while I was visiting your blog I noticed for the first time, (yeah sometimes I'm slow LOL) your, "How to make your pictures bigger on blogger."
    And it worked!!!
Thank you so much for explaining it so that even I could get it!!
I've got bigger photos on my blog now it's great!!
Do pop over and take a look.
    Thanks again.

    Chris Xx

  13. Ahh, a lovely burst of colour Sue. The cake looks fab too! x

  14. Sue, I love your rainbow jug? Where did you get it?

  15. Nicky, I bought it at the Lizard gift shop in Cornwall on holiday last August. I saw jugs like it all over the place in Cornwall as well as matching plates, mugs etc. They aren't made in the UK. I think you'd be able to get one at almost any touristy place here. I see Lucy at Attic24 has one too.
